Request AppointmentWhat Is Dry Eye Disease?
Dry eyes are the result of poor tear quality or quantity. Symptoms can be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). Dry eye disease can often coexist with diseases affecting the eyelids or tear glands, such as blepharitis or meibomian gland dysfunction. Although dry eye disease cannot be cured, personalized solutions focused on improving tear quality can effectively alleviate symptoms.
How Is Dry Eye Treated?
Cookie-cutter solutions may help alleviate acute dry eye in the short-term. But we prioritize personalized treatments to target the root cause of your dry eye. With customized strategies based on in-depth evaluations, we strive to provide longer-lasting relief. No cookie-cutter approach.
We may recommend a combination of management options, from administering medicated eye drops at home to receiving an in-office treatment. Our goal is to achieve results that help you live and see comfortably.
IPL
Intense pulsed light (IPL) uses pulses of light to treat the skin around the eyes. The pulses create gentle heat to help reduce factors contributing to inflammation, including accumulated bacteria.
The heat also melts oils trapped in the meibomian glands—tear glands inside the eyelids. The oils prevent tears from evaporating, which is essential for maintaining a moist, comfortable surface. Melting the oils restores tear quality to relieve dry eye symptoms.

BlephEx
BlephEx helps alleviate dry eye symptoms by improving eyelid hygiene, reducing inflammation and unblocking tear glands. A soft medical-grade sponge gently exfoliates the skin, removing accumulated bacteria and debris. The procedure typically takes 6–8 minutes.
The treatment can provide effective relief for conditions like dry eye and blepharitis. Frequency can vary depending on your individual needs but may be repeated as often as every 4–6 months.
Punctal Plugs
Punctal plugs are tiny plugs carefully placed inside the tear ducts that help maintain surface moisture by preventing tears from draining into the tear ducts (puncta). Temporary punctal plugs dissolve naturally over time, lasting from a few days to a few months. Semi-permanent punctal plugs—made from medical-grade plastic—are inserted deeper into the duct and can’t be seen.
Punctal plugs are an outpatient procedure, and you can return to everyday activities immediately after.
Amniotic Membranes
We utilize amniotic membranes as a therapeutic option to treat dry eye. This treatment helps in several ways:
- Promotes healing
- Reduces pain and discomfort
- Improves tear production
- Reduces scarring
